THE CHICKENS ARE COMING!!
Why? do I hear you asking?
Bit of a long story ............
We have often talked of having a small holding and talking, dreaming, is cheap and now it is too late for us - we really don't want the hassle of selling our house and buying some land etc. etc.
The decision has been made ....sort of .... I am in full agreement with having chickens but .... I like my holidays .... selfish?.... possibly ..... a four day break now and again is not much really out of a year ....
So we have agreed that we will have chickens.
When?
Dunno yet .... depends on our circumstances I suppose .... next year it may be more difficult to get away so often ....
At least we have decided where they will go!!!
See this shady part of the garden?
It is PJ's side of the garden and we cannot even get a good crop of potatoes!!!
The second greenhouse did not get enough sun and light either so it is decided .... that is where we will have the chickens.
PJ is going to dismantle this greenhouse and use parts of it to build a chicken ranch. The hutch is stored in the garage, PJ has drawn up the diagrams, ordered the scaffolding etc so now he has a project for the winter!! lol

We have to wait until the crops are picked and then we can move the plants. We only have tomatoes in the greenhouse and they may go to compost yet ....
We have several pears on the pear trees - not expected as this is the first year - lots of apples on one of the trees so can do nothing there pruning wise.

Behind the fruit trees are the soft fruits and potatoes, when the potatoes are dug up we will be able to see how much space we have for this 'ranch'. The compost bin ( we will only keep one of them) will go to the other side of the garden and all will be revealed!
We have a couple of local foxes in the neighbo
urhood so PJ has to build the 'ranch' really, really fox proof.

That is why we have had the scaffold delivered, just the sleepers and netting to come.
Hopefully if the fox tries to dig his way inside he will have a fruitless effort!
I hope that this will be a continuing story and once the chickens are installed I can give you a link to a new blog - if you're interested of course!!
