We are not meeting up until this evening so PJ and I are off to find Parc de Belleville. The link should take you to the posting that made me want to visit this park.
We decided upon our route last night whilst having our coffee, and so today we 'knew' where we were going. yeah! as if!!
We managed to find our way to Belleville area - it was market day, wish I had known I would've looked for my net curtains! - stopped for a coffee and a quick look at the map but, not knowing exactly where we were, we resorted to asking the barman when we paid for the coffee.
Round the corner and up the street - sounds good.
We knew that Belleville is not the most salubrious area - heard it described as 'Montmartre without the tourists!' - so we were not going to hand around.
After an uphill straight up the street walk, we managed to find the park but had to focus to find the top and it really was a steep climb, but sooo worth it when we arrived.
The belvedere itself is very tired but the views .............. breathtaking!
The artwork is also looking tired and the graffiti artists have started to attack it. It seems such a shame as I understand that the artist started out as a graffiti man himself.
On one pillar some of the local artists had come together to make a tile that showcased their style, unfortunately I only recognised the 3D white face.
The 'council' is doing its best to counteract this, taking photos of the tags and then painting over it, but I imagine this is a never ending job!
We ate our croissants, watched a walking party explore - one or two photos of the pink haired lady were included! - and then they moved off down the hill through the gardens and away.
We followed the road down towards the boulevard, interesting variety of houses and decorations, although we spotted this wall, we did not spot the commemoration plaque on the house where Edith Piaf was born! We managed to find our way back to the Metro and it was like walking through China, every shop seemed to be chinese food, clothing, music although there were many nationalities walking the streets.
We went back into Paris Central as we did not need to change trains and it seemed the easiest thing to do.
We bought some outfits for our new Grandson - just a few! - and then decided it was time for lunch and, just outside the shop we found the Relais de l'Hotel de Ville and stayed there for a few hours, we had lunch as coffees galore - so good just sitting in the sunshine watching Parisian life go by!!
We were meeting up at Le Square Trousseau for our evening meal, non-smokers inside and the others outside - it worked well.
We had a sumptious meal, and then came ........
